We were very honored to received five Pyramid Awards from the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Harrisburg (HBA) at their annual awards evening! We received three awards for residential remodeling projects completed in 2016, including two awards in the best kitchen renovation category and one in the best bathroom renovation category. We also received two marketing awards for best e-newsletter and best e-mail campaign – if you don’t already receive our monthly communications with project pictures, company updates, and home & garden tips, you can sign up here!

Since 1970, Excel has focused its business on working with area families to improve the appearance and functionality of their homes. Jim Mirando, President of Excel, says HBA’s Pyramid Awards validate the company’s commitment to trust and quality. “Our team works extremely hard to give clients a convenient and pleasant remodeling experience while delivering exceptional value with enhancements to their homes that they will enjoy for many years,” said Mirando. Explaining the future value of remodeling now, Mirando said, “Many times our designs address aging-in-place objectives, especially in bathroom remodels, creating spaces that will not only be enjoyed now, but will also increase functionality and ease of use in the years to come.”

Below is a list of Excel’s awards with a brief description of the award-winning project and links to see before & after pictures.

1. Pyramid Award: Best Kitchen Renovation Over $100,001

This kitchen remodel in Hershey replaced dated, dark, formal cabinetry with antiqued white cabinetry and many more amenities, including a new butler area with built-in wine storage and a wine chiller, an integrated drawer-style microwave, and new high-end white appliances. A tiled feature above the gourmet oven serves as the focal point to the kitchen, pulling in the shape and decorative features of the floor tiles, as well as the copper color of the floor and granite countertops throughout. The redesign added more cabinetry for convenient storage and more countertop space for prep and serving. A new, white tile backsplash and recessed lighting throughout the space brighten this grand remodel. See before & after project photos.

2. Pyramid Award: Best Kitchen Renovation $75,001 to $100,000

Pyramid winning kitchen

The existing kitchen in this Mechanicsburg remodel was dated, with carpeting and floral wallpaper. It was also quite dark, with minimal natural lighting from a single window above the sink and no pendent lighting above the small island. As part of the remodel, the single window above the sink was replaced with two windows, allowing much more natural light into the space, and a large kitchen island was added with pendent lighting above. The carpet was replaced with an attractive blonde flooring which opens up the space, as does the new antique white cabinetry, and light-colored quartz countertops and tile backsplash. Black quartz behind the stove creates a focal point for the room and complements the quartz top on the island. Other considerations in the design included the remodel of a beverage station around the corner from the kitchen and the transformation of an existing closet off the kitchen into a mudroom featuring a seating/storage bench with cheerful yellow accent pillows and convenient hooks for hanging jackets and bags. See before & after project photos.

3. Pyramid Award: Best Bathroom Renovation $50,001 to $75,000

Pyramid winning bathroom

The design for this Harrisburg master bathroom remodel included removing a dated Jacuzzi tub and replacing it with a free-standing soaking tub; removing a glass-enclosed shower stall and replacing it with a zero-threshold, tiled, walk-in shower; and removing the existing double-sink vanity and replacing it with beautiful cabinetry offering a separate his and hers vanity area, and much more storage space. The new design created a better flow with more open floor space in the master bathroom, and amped up the design element with new flooring, beautiful cabinetry and mosaic tilework that accents the new plum wall color. New lighting throughout the bathroom brightens the space and adds a touch of luxury with a glass chandelier feature. See before & after project photos.
